We are saddened to learn of the death of
Professor Teodor Silviu Balaban
one of ANKA's most dedicated and long-term supporters.
Silviu was an active user of ANKA from its earliest days, pursuing structural and spectroscopic research on molecular self-assemblies at both the SCD and PDIFF beamlines and at the ANKA infrared beamlines. Aside from being a regular user Silviu was also a member of the ANKA Peer Review Committee from April 2009 till March 2012. After his move to Marseille in 2007 Silviu continued to measure at ANKA, and indeed one of his last papers (Nat. Commun. 2016 Sep 1;7:12657, doi:10.1038/ncomms12657) includes work done at the PDIFF and IR beamlines.
Silviu was a generous, thoughtful person and a talented scientist who will be sorely missed.
We extend our thoughts and sympathies to his family at this difficult time.
