ELOG is a widely used open source software package which implements web-based electronic logbooks for a wide variety of applications. The seminar starts with a general introduction to ELOG, its requirements and implementation details. A few sample cases are shown such as personal logbooks, mailing lists and logbooks for laboratory work and small collaborations. In a second part, the application of ELOG for accelerator operation at PSI, Switzerland, is shown, where it is used for shift operation, error logging and as a central information database. With more than 15 years of experience with this software, detailed recommendations can be made for the application of this package at other laboratories and cases of usage.
