IR1 beamline

ANKA-IR 1 is a multipurpose infrared spectroscopy and ellipsometry beamline. It is dedicate to studies in condensed matter and material research. The experimental station run by the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart provides facilities for FTIR spectroscopy and ellipsometry in the mid- and far-infrared spectral ranges in the field of condensed matter research.

Infrared spectroscopy is characterized by an especially broad range of applications, thus the ANKA-IR user community includes researchers from many other fields including geology, materials research, surface science, microtechnology, nanosciences and biological sciences.

Due to ANKA-IR's innovative and influential design utilizing synchrotron edge radiation, characterization and optimization of this novel source is a major research theme of the ANKA infrared group. These studies also include the use of short electron bunches to produce stable coherent emission, resulting in a 5 orders of magnitude intensity enhancement in the far-infrared or terahertz range.
