Abstract:

The talk will discuss the development of Schottky diode mixer and detector technology at Virgina Diodes. Virginia Diodes has developed a series of mixers and detectors covering the range from 50 GHz to 3 THz with state of the art sensitivity and speed. Examples that will be discussed during the talk will include:
  - The use of Schottky detectors as envelope detectors for wideband THz communications systems
  - A 2.5 THz Schottky detector developed for plasma fusion diagnostics
  - The development of a THz harmonic mixers for use in phase locking quantum-cascade lasers from 2-5 THz.
  - High sensitivity receivers for THz spectral analysis
